TLDR Certain gene variations in Jiangnan cashmere goats are linked to important traits like birth weight and fiber quality, useful for breeding.
This study analyzed genetic polymorphisms in the CXCL10, FOS, HOXC13, and WNT4 genes of 353 Jiangnan cashmere goats to assess their correlation with key economic traits such as birth weight, yearling weight, and fiber diameter. Fourteen SNP loci were identified, with significant correlations found between specific SNPs and these traits. Notably, SNP9 of the HOXC13 gene was linked to birth weight and fiber diameter, while SNP10 correlated with yearling weight. SNP14 of the WNT4 gene was associated with birth weight. These findings provide valuable molecular markers for breeding programs to enhance the economic traits of Jiangnan cashmere goats.
