TLDR Dual wavelength LEDs may help reduce hair loss by lowering DHT levels.
The study investigates the use of dual wavelength LEDs in low level light therapy (LLLT) as a treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA), which affects about 50% of adults. AGA is primarily caused by the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by 5-α reductase. The research demonstrates that red and red-orange light (620 and 660 nm) can induce the release of nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in A549 and HEK293T cells, leading to a decrease in DHT synthesis. This suggests a potential mechanism for LLLT using LED-emitted light to inhibit DHT production and treat AGA. community Red light therapy that works well

      in Research/Science  6 upvotes 7 months ago
Red light therapy with dual wavelengths (650nm and 850nm) can stimulate hair regrowth without DHT blockers. Consistent use of a panel with these wavelengths has shown positive results in hair regrowth.

community I got prescribed topical finasteride!

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  20 upvotes 1 year ago
The user was prescribed 0.3% topical finasteride with 5% minoxidil for use on the temples twice daily, while continuing minoxidil on the full scalp. Replies suggested using the treatment once daily and questioned the logic of treating only the temples, with one suggesting dilution for use across the entire scalp.

community Why does it seem everyone favors finasteride over dutasteride?

in Female  62 upvotes 1 year ago
The conversation discusses preferences for hair loss treatments, specifically finasteride over dutasteride. Users share personal experiences, cost considerations, FDA approval status, and potential side effects, with some switching between treatments to find what works best for them.

community 4 years of dutasteride monotherapy

in Progress Pictures  191 upvotes 2 years ago
The conclusion of the conversation is that the user experienced noticeable regrowth of hair after using dutasteride as a single treatment for about 1.5 years. No before photos were available.
