TLDR Extracts improve hair growth in alopecia.
A study investigated the potential of Zataria multiflora Boiss. and Matricaria chamomilla extracts for treating androgenetic alopecia. In vitro tests showed that both extracts had 5α-reductase inhibitory activity. A randomized controlled trial with 60 participants was conducted to validate the in vitro results. The participants were divided into three groups: two groups were treated with the extracts, and the third group received a placebo. All groups also underwent treatment with 5% topical minoxidil twice a day. The study found that the extracts had a positive effect on hair growth, as measured by the size of patches, total number of grown hair, and number of terminal hair. The study suggests that these extracts may be a promising treatment option for androgenetic alopecia.
