TLDR Pueraria mirifica extract may help treat benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The study investigated the effects of Pueraria mirifica aqueous extracts on testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in Sprague Dawley rats. Rats were treated with different doses of P. mirifica extract or finasteride for 30 days. Results showed that both P. mirifica and finasteride significantly reduced prostatic weight, prostatic index, and serum dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels compared to the BPH model group. Additionally, P. mirifica improved prostate histomorphology by reducing epithelial involutions and enhancing stromal and epithelial cells. The study concludes that P. mirifica extract may be effective in mitigating BPH development and could serve as an alternative anti-BPH treatment.
