TLDR There is no causal relationship between androgenetic alopecia and serum uric acid.
This study used Mendelian randomization to explore the causal relationship between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and serum uric acid (SUA) levels in 343,836 European participants for SUA and 207,036 for AGA. The results showed no evidence of a causal link between AGA and SUA, with odds ratios close to 1 and non-significant p-values. The findings were consistent across various methods, indicating no significant heterogeneity or pleiotropy. The study suggests that further research with larger and more diverse samples is needed to confirm these results. The research was funded by the Tianjin Key Medical Discipline (Specialty) Construction Project and used data from the UK Biobank and GWAS catalog, with no conflicts of interest declared by the authors.
