TLDR Severe hair loss in Chinese men is linked to high blood pressure, while in women, it's linked to larger waist size and cholesterol issues.
This study involving 3,703 Chinese participants (1,414 men and 2,289 women) found that severe androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in males is significantly associated with higher risks of hypertension, while in females, AGA is linked to increased waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-hip ratio, and dyslipidemia. Logistic regression analysis identified hypertension as a significant factor affecting AGA in males, and dyslipidemia, waist circumference, and hyperuricemia as significant factors in females. The study highlights a potential link between AGA and components of metabolic syndrome, with notable gender differences.
