excess uric acid in blood, potentially causing gout

Hyperuricemia is a condition characterized by an excess of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is a waste product formed from the breakdown of purines, which are substances found in certain foods and drinks. When the body produces too much uric acid or fails to excrete enough of it, the excess can lead to the formation of sharp, needle-like urate crystals in a joint or surrounding tissue, causing pain and inflammation, commonly known as gout. This condition can also be associated with other health issues such as kidney stones and cardiovascular diseases.
