TLDR Different types of hair loss require specific treatments, and new treatments are being developed.
Alopecia, a condition causing temporary, non-scarring hair loss, affects a significant portion of the population at some point in their lives. The condition can manifest in various forms, including patchy hair loss, diffuse hair loss, and total hair loss, with patchy hair loss on the scalp being the most common. The three primary types of alopecia are androgenic (AGA), areata (AA), and chemotherapy-induced (CIA). In children and adolescents, common causes include alopecia areata, tinea capitis, androgenetic alopecia, traction alopecia, trichotillomania, abnormalities in the hair cycle, and congenital alopecia disorders. Each type of alopecia requires a unique treatment approach. The paper also discusses potential future treatments for alopecia, informed by recent findings and advancements in technology.
