Topical minoxidil for female pattern hair loss was found the only high-evidence first-line treatment, though 40% do not respond. Activated PRP injections were found to significantly improve hair density. Topical prostaglandin analogs were found to improve hair length and density over placebo. Platelet lysate in AGA patients was found to improve hair counts and diameter, matching PRP. Oral finasteride in normoandrogenic women was reported effective, especially combined with minoxidil or topical estradiol. Oral and topical spironolactone was reported effective for androgenetic alopecia, best combined with minoxidil. Topical finasteride plus minoxidil was found to outperform either alone in men. In mice, a dissolving minoxidil microneedle patch matched or beat daily topical minoxidil with weekly dosing.
