A meta-analysis found traditional Chinese medicine added to conventional treatment improved efficacy in androgenetic alopecia with similar adverse events. A meta-analysis for surgeons reported transplant graft survival of 85-93% and satisfaction of 90-97% in nonscarring alopecia. In a placebo-controlled trial, monofilament thread scalp injections improved hair mass and count in women with pattern hair loss. In a randomized crossover trial, topical minoxidil versus PRP in women showed minoxidil improved more hair measures, while PRP improved quality-of-life scores. Progenitor-cell-enriched scalp micrografts were reported to improve hair count, density and anagen phase. In uncontrolled patients, four PRP sessions increased hair density through seven months. In mice, boehmite applied to skin accelerated hair regrowth via β-catenin signalling.
