After stopping oral finasteride in male pattern hair loss, 94% of maintained terminal hairs miniaturized, which the authors described as drug dependency with a delayed rebound effect. Autologous plasma as a graft holding solution was found to improve graft survival and hair density over Ringer's lactate. FUE harvesting in transplant patients was reported to cause less postoperative pain than FUT. A review found PRP for hair growth increased hair count and density across trials. HSD3B1 1245C allele in women with PCOS was associated with female pattern hair loss. In alopecia areata, PRP versus intralesional steroid matched steroid efficacy with fewer relapses.
- Maintenance of optimised hair growth from viable terminal scalp hair follicles at baseline with oral finasteride in male pattern hair loss and first evidence of a “drug dependency” and a post-finasteride “rebound effect”. After stopping finasteride, 94% of maintained terminal hairs miniaturized over 30 months, showing drug dependency and a delayed rebound effect.
