A meta-analysis found photobiomodulation for androgenetic alopecia increased hair density, with laser-only devices outperforming laser/LED combinations. In a randomized trial, 1% pseudo-ceramide lotion was reported to reduce daily shedding and increase hair density and thickness in pattern hair loss. A review found herbal options for hair loss best studied are saw palmetto, pumpkin, red clover, ginseng, and Curcuma aeruginosa, mostly acting through 5-alpha-reductase inhibition. During FUE, graft transection across scalp zones was reported lowest in the mid-occipital area and higher on the sides. In East Asian men with advanced pattern hair loss, beard grafts added to scalp transplants showed 95.7% graft survival with no visible scarring. In mice, shikimic acid prolonged anagen growth and lengthened hair shafts in cultured human follicles.
