PRP for pattern hair loss was found in a meta-analysis to increase hair density versus placebo. Follicle sulfotransferase activity was reported to predict which women respond to oral minoxidil. 5% topical minoxidil outperformed 10% and placebo for regrowth, with 10% causing irritation and shedding. A review concluded low-level laser therapy was effective for androgenetic alopecia, while another found topical minoxidil effective across hair disorders though its mechanism remains unclear. Kimchi and cheonggukjang probiotics improved hair count and thickness in a pilot study. In treatment-resistant alopecia areata, microneedling with ALA photodynamic therapy gave the best regrowth.
