PRP injections for pattern hair loss produced objective improvement in 21 of 24 reviewed studies, and PRP combined with other treatments was reported possibly superior to PRP alone. Radiofrequency microneedling added to 5% minoxidil improved hair count and thickness more than minoxidil alone in a split-scalp trial. Low-level light therapy improved hair coverage, count and thickness against a sham device. Japanese guidelines recommended finasteride, dutasteride or 5% minoxidil for men and 1% minoxidil for women, advising against oral minoxidil. 5α-reductase inhibitors were linked to uncommon but potentially persistent sexual side effects, though prior safety reporting was criticized as inadequate. Topical minoxidil and oral antiandrogens were found to arrest and partly reverse female pattern hair loss. Spanish dermatologists most often prescribed topical minoxidil and oral finasteride.
