A hair fiber filler product was reported to temporarily improve the appearance of thinning hair, with most surveyed users satisfied. A review of alopecia drug discovery highlighted stem cells, JAK inhibitors and hair follicle neogenesis as future directions across androgenetic, areata and chemotherapy-induced alopecia. In mice, conditioned medium from keratinocyte stem cells was found to increase hair growth and follicle cell proliferation, as was a six-growth-factor cocktail derived from it. In cell co-culture, dermal papilla cells were shown to promote endothelial cell survival and vessel tube formation via VEGF and IGF-1, suggesting a role in follicle vascular remodeling.
