    GlossaryPulmonary Embolism

blockage in lung artery often from leg blood clots

A Pulmonary Embolism (PE) is a blockage in one of the pulmonary arteries in the lungs, usually caused by blood clots that travel to the lungs from the legs or other parts of the body (deep vein thrombosis). This condition can be life-threatening because it can prevent blood from reaching the lung tissue, leading to reduced oxygen levels in the blood and damage to lung tissue.
