TLDR The meeting discussed medical findings, including benefits of certain treatments for cancer and heart conditions, and highlighted issues like poor adherence to preventive measures and skill gaps among interns.
In 2014, the RAMI Intern Section Meeting reported on a variety of medical studies and case reports. Key findings included the potential benefit of selective tracheostomy in reducing ICU stays for oral cancer patients, the effectiveness of Argatroban and warfarin for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, and the use of GCS scores in predicting hospital stay lengths for TBI patients. Studies also highlighted issues such as low adherence to thromboprophylaxis, deficiencies in procedural skills among interns, and the need for improved patient care standards. A significant study involving 18 patients showed that an 8-week milk-based weight management program led to significant weight loss and improved metabolic outcomes for Type 2 Diabetes patients. Another retrospective study of 60 colorectal cancer patients found that 23% had indeterminate pulmonary nodules, with most remaining stable over time, suggesting a limited impact on prognosis. Various audits and case studies addressed topics ranging from chronic kidney disease prevalence to the management of complex conditions like pyoderma gangrenosum and infective endocarditis.
