    GlossaryAdrenocortical Oncocytoma

rare benign adrenal gland tumor with hormone-producing potential

Adrenocortical Oncocytoma is a rare, typically benign tumor that arises from the adrenal cortex, the outer layer of the adrenal glands located above the kidneys. These tumors are composed of oncocytes, which are cells characterized by an abundance of mitochondria, giving them a granular appearance under a microscope. While most adrenocortical oncocytomas do not cause symptoms, some may produce hormones that lead to clinical manifestations such as hypertension or Cushing's syndrome.
