TLDR A 70-year-old woman with a malignant adrenal tumor improved after surgery and radiotherapy.
A 70-year-old woman with symptoms of abdominal discomfort, weight loss, and increased hair growth was diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma after imaging revealed a large mass near her liver and kidney, and hormonal evaluations showed elevated cortisol and adrenal androgens. She underwent surgery, including an adrenalectomy and nephrectomy, due to the mass's severe adhesion. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis, and she received adjuvant radiotherapy. The case highlights the importance of thorough physical exams, hormonal evaluations, and imaging in identifying malignant adrenal masses, particularly when symptoms are nonspecific, and emphasizes that surgical removal of the tumor followed by appropriate adjuvant therapy can improve patient outcomes.
