Glossary Papillary Dermis

uppermost dermal layer with blood vessels and nerve endings

The papillary dermis is the uppermost layer of the dermis, which is the thick layer of skin beneath the outer epidermis. It contains thin collagen fibers, small blood vessels, and nerve endings, playing a crucial role in supplying nutrients to the epidermis and regulating temperature. This layer also contributes to the skin's tactile properties and helps in wound healing.
