TLDR Combining zinc with 2% minoxidil is effective for long-term treatment of hair loss.
The study observed the clinical efficacy of combining zinc with 2% topical minoxidil in treating androgenetic alopecia in 98 patients, divided into a treatment group and a control group, each with 49 patients. The treatment group received oral 0.4% zinc sulfate and topical 2% minoxidil, while the control group received only oral zinc sulfate. After 3 and 6 months, the treatment group showed effectiveness rates of 10.2% and 36.8%, compared to 6.1% and 22.5% in the control group, with no significant difference. However, after 9 and 12 months, the treatment group showed significantly higher effectiveness rates of 77.5% and 91.8%, compared to 51.0% and 59.2% in the control group. The study concluded that the combination of zinc and 2% minoxidil was effective and well-tolerated for long-term treatment of androgenetic alopecia.
