TLDR Using prednisone, zinc, and minoxidil together effectively treats hair loss with long-term benefits and is safe to use.
In a clinical study conducted 13 years ago, 98 patients with androgenetic alopecia were divided into two groups: a treatment group that received a combination of prednisone, zinc formulation, and 2% minoxidil, and a control group that only received prednisone and zinc formulation. After 3 and 6 months, the treatment group showed effectiveness rates of 10.2% (5/49) and 36.7% (18/49), respectively, while the control group showed rates of 6.1% (3/49) and 22.4% (11/49), respectively. These differences were not statistically significant. However, after 9 and 12 months, the treatment group showed significant improvement with effectiveness rates of 77.6% (38/49) and 91.8% (45/49), respectively, compared to the control group's rates of 42.9% (21/49) and 59.2% (29/49). The study concluded that the combination of prednisone, zinc formulation, and 2% minoxidil showed satisfactory clinical efficacy in treating androgenetic alopecia, with ideal long-term effects and good safety and tolerance.
