TLDR Higher substance P levels may cause discomfort in hair loss patients.
The study involving 70 participants (35 with trichodynia in androgenetic alopecia and 35 healthy controls) found that substance P (SP) levels were significantly higher in AGA patients, with a positive correlation between tissue SP levels and trichodynia severity. This suggests SP's involvement in the pathogenesis of trichodynia in AGA patients, indicating its potential role in the discomfort associated with the condition. Further large-scale studies are recommended to explore SP's role in AGA and potential treatments for trichodynia.

Increasing the dutasteride dose to 2.5 mg may significantly reduce DHT and promote hair regrowth, with similar side effects to lower doses. Some users combine dutasteride with minoxidil and finasteride for better results, but there are concerns about long-term effectiveness and availability.
