TLDR Sox10 is important for hair follicle development and hair growth cycles.
The study investigated the role of Sox10 in hair follicle morphogenesis and the hair cycle, using immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence analysis. Sox10 was found to be expressed in the hair germ and peg during morphogenesis. In the telogen phase, Sox10 was present in the hair bulge and germ cell cap, where hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) are located. During anagen and catagen phases, Sox10 was observed in the epithelial portions, such as the strands of keratinocytes and the outer root sheath (ORS). These findings suggested that Sox10 played a role in early hair follicle development and the regulation of postnatal hair follicle cycling.
