TLDR Propylene glycol and ethanol increase finasteride skin absorption, sodium lauryl sulfate doesn't.
The study investigated the effects of propylene glycol, ethanol, and sodium lauryl sulfate on the skin deposition and permeation of finasteride, a drug used to treat hair loss. The results showed that the presence of propylene glycol and ethanol increased the skin deposition of finasteride, while sodium lauryl sulfate had no significant effect. However, the presence of all three compounds increased the permeation of finasteride through the skin. The study suggests that the use of propylene glycol and ethanol in topical finasteride formulations may enhance its effectiveness in treating hair loss.
