TLDR Targeting dermal adipocytes may help combat skin aging.
The document discussed the role of dermal white adipose tissue (dWAT) in skin aging, highlighting its unique effects and phenotypic changes. It noted that both intrinsic and extrinsic aging, particularly chronic photo-damage, led to a reduction in dWAT volume due to adipocytes being replaced by fibrotic structures, a process known as "adipocyte-myofibroblast transition" (AMT). The study also suggested that dermal adipocytes might contribute to skin aging, as indicated by the correlation between hypertrophic scarring and signs of aging across different ethnic groups. These findings suggested that targeting dermal adipocytes could be a promising strategy for combating skin aging.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Resveratrol and fisetin, found in red wine and strawberries, may promote hair growth by affecting hair follicle cells. Users discuss various treatments, including natural remedies like saw palmetto and topical applications, with mixed opinions on their effectiveness compared to pharmaceuticals like finasteride.
