TLDR Scalp microneedling did not improve hair coverage or density in male pattern hair loss.
The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of isolated scalp microneedling in 30 male pattern hair loss (MPHL) patients using two different devices: a roller and a tattoo cartridge. Participants underwent 4 monthly sessions, and changes in scalp coverage and hair density were measured at 4 and 16 weeks post-treatment. Results showed that only a small number of participants (4 of 12 in the roller group and 2 of 14 in the tattoo cartridge group) experienced initial improvement, with only half maintaining this improvement by the final follow-up. No significant increase in hair density was observed, and no adverse events were reported. Scalp biopsies indicated neocollagenesis and elastolysis. The study concluded that isolated scalp microneedling did not improve scalp coverage or hair density in MPHL patients.
