TLDR Microneedle roller therapy could help treat hair loss by promoting hair growth.
The study conducted 10 years ago investigated the hair growth-promoting effects of microneedle roller therapy. The experiment involved C57BL/6 mice divided into three groups: normal saline-treated, minoxidil-treated, and microneedle roller therapy-received group. The results showed that microneedle roller therapy enhanced the development of hair follicles during anagen, the active growth phase of hair follicles. It increased the expression of BrdU and FGF in the hair follicles of the mice and upregulated mRNA expression of VEGFR-2, FGF-2, EGF, which are growth factors that play a central role in hair follicle development during anagen. The study concluded that microneedle roller therapy could potentially be used for the treatment of alopecia.
