TLDR Ginseng and Albizia extracts help prevent hair thinning with age.
The study investigated the effects of Panax Ginseng and Albizia Julibrissin extracts on preventing age-related hair density reduction. The research focused on protecting hair follicle cells from oxidative stress and promoting the anagen phase of hair growth. The study evaluated the antioxidant activity of the extracts, their impact on melatonin and VEGF protein expression levels, and their ability to prevent cellular senescence and inhibit the expression of pro-apoptotic factors that hinder hair growth. Ginseng extract showed significant antioxidant activities, reducing the expression of the stress-induced gene SRXN1 by 76% and achieving an ORAC score of 5798 TE. Albizia extract increased melatonin expression by 159% and VEGF expression by 15%. The combination of both extracts reduced the expression of the senescence-associated gene CDKN1A by 60% and decreased the expression of the pro-apoptotic factor BAX (RQ = 0.47) and the hair growth inhibitor FGF5 (RQ = 0.44). The results suggest that Ginseng and Albizia extracts are effective for the prevention of age-related hair density reduction. The study was supported by Pierre Fabre Dermo Cosmetique.
