TLDR Ginseng and Albizia extracts may help prevent age-related hair thinning.
The study from 2018 investigated the potential of Panax Ginseng and Albizia Julibrissin extracts in preventing age-related hair density reduction. It was found that Ginseng extract exhibited significant antioxidant properties, including a high Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) score of 5798 Trolox Equivalents (TE) and the ability to reduce SRXN1 gene expression induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) by 76%. Albizia extract was shown to increase Melatonin expression by 159% and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) expression by 15%. When used together, these extracts protected Human Dermal Papilla Cells (HDPCs) from H2O2-induced senescence, decreasing CDKN1A expression by 60% and reducing the expression of the pro-apoptotic factor BAX to a relative quantity (RQ) of 0.47 and the hair growth inhibitor FGF5 to an RQ of 0.44. The study concluded that the combination of Ginseng and Albizia extracts could be effective in preventing the reduction of hair density associated with aging.
