TLDR Oral isotretinoin effectively stabilizes frontal fibrosing alopecia.
The study evaluated the therapeutic effects of oral isotretinoin in patients with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), a chronic lymphocytic scarring alopecia characterized by frontotemporal hairline recession and eyebrow loss. Although the pathogenesis of FFA was not fully understood, the study aimed to assess isotretinoin's efficacy. Through a descriptive observational study involving patient interviews and data collection, the research found that oral isotretinoin treatment effectively stabilized alopecia. This stabilization was significant as hair loss impacted the femininity and self-esteem of affected women. The findings suggested that isotretinoin could aid clinicians in managing FFA.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Isotretinoin and tretinoin are different; isotretinoin can cause hair loss and has more side effects. Tretinoin may affect minoxidil absorption, and users suggest waiting before applying minoxidil.
