TLDR Baldness is often stigmatized, causing distress for many men, but some accept it with minimal distress.
The study surveyed 357 balding men from diverse international backgrounds and found that baldness is heavily stigmatized both socially and structurally, often being medicalized as a distressing disease. About half of the participants internalized this stigma, reporting distress and viewing baldness as disadvantageous, while others resisted the stigma by accepting baldness with minimal distress. The research highlights the influence of commercial interests in promoting anti-baldness treatments and the need for unbiased, diverse research to better understand baldness experiences. The study emphasizes the importance of psychosocial support to help men resist stigmatization.
