TLDR Hair loss lowers young men's self-esteem, increasing social anxiety and affecting daily life.
A mixed methods study of young men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) found that it negatively affects their quality of life by impacting their self-esteem, social anxiety, and daily functioning. The study recommends dermatologists to consider the psychological impact of AGA and provide appropriate support and treatment options. The study involved 11 to 129 male participants at different stages of AGA, and a tool to measure quality of life in AGA was created for future research. Coping strategies such as acceptance, concealment, and seeking treatment were reported, but interventions are needed to improve their quality of life.
