TLDR Ginger extract helps hair growth and reduces the need for prednisolone in alopecia areata patients.
The study investigated the effects of ginger extract on oxidative stress and prednisolone dosage in 40 patients with alopecia areata. Patients were treated with 500 mg of ginger powder daily for 60 days, alongside either 10 mg or 100 mg/day of prednisolone. Blood samples were analyzed for oxidative stress markers, and clinical outcomes such as hair loss, body weight, and acne incidence were monitored. Results showed that ginger improved hair growth and reduced oxidative stress, suggesting it could lower the required dose of prednisolone, thereby minimizing its side effects.
