TLDR TGPC plus CGT is effective and safe for treating severe alopecia areata in children.
The study investigated the efficacy and safety of total glucosides of paeony capsule (TGPC) plus compound glycyrrhizin tablets (CGT) for treating severe alopecia areata in children. 117 subjects were randomly assigned to receive either TGPC plus CGT or CGT alone for 12 months. Results showed significant reductions in alopecia areata severity scores in both groups, with the treatment group showing greater improvement. The effective rate was higher in the treatment group at 6 and 12 months, though not at 3 months. Adverse event rates were similar between groups, with no severe adverse events reported. Thus, TGPC plus CGT was found to be effective and safe for this condition.
