TLDR Both treatments for alopecia areata are equally effective and safe.
The study compared the efficacy and safety of total glucosides of paeony capsule (TGPC) and compound glycyrrhizin tablet in treating mild to moderate alopecia areata. Involving 86 patients, the trial found that both treatments had similar effectiveness and safety profiles. The cured and markedly effective rates for TGPC were 36.36%, 50.00%, and 68.18% at the end of the first, second, and third months, respectively, with a 13.64% incidence of adverse reactions. For the control group, these rates were 38.10%, 57.14%, and 71.43%, with a 16.67% incidence of adverse reactions. Both treatments inhibited CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD8+ T-cells and decreased the Th/Ts ratio, indicating their potential in managing alopecia areata.
