TLDR The study found that the hair loss condition in Cesky Fousek dogs is influenced by multiple genes affecting skin and muscle structure, fat metabolism, and immunity.
The study "Genomic and Transcriptomic Characterization of Atypical Recurrent Flank Alopecia in the Cesky Fousek" involved 216 dogs and aimed to understand the genetic and transcriptomic characteristics of atypical recurrent flank alopecia (aRFA), a hair loss condition. The researchers identified associations on chromosomes 19, 8, 30, 36, and 21, highlighting 144 candidate genes, suggesting a polygenic basis for aRFA. They also identified 236 strongly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that interact with aRFA-associated genes, affecting four major metabolic pathways: collagen formation, muscle structure/contraction, lipid metabolism, and the immune system. The study concluded that aRFA likely has a complex genetic inheritance and is influenced by environmental factors. Future research with more individuals and ideally from multiple dog breeds is needed to confirm these findings.

Hair loss can be influenced by chronic low-level allergies, and treatments like fexofenadine or topical cetirizine may help with regrowth. The user avoids finasteride, dutasteride, and minoxidil, and has tried Regenera Activa and PRF sessions.
