TLDR Behavioral dermatology treats skin problems by considering both emotional and physical factors.
In 2003, the field of behavioral dermatology was defined as the management of skin conditions that have significant behavioral or emotional aspects. Conditions like acral lick dermatitis, psychogenic alopecia, and hyperesthesia were understood as syndromes with no singular diagnosis. Effective treatment required a holistic approach that considered physiological, social, and environmental factors influencing the manifestation of these dermatological issues.
