TLDR The treatment showed significant hair regrowth in alopecia areata patients without side effects.
The study explored the use of gelatin-coated transferosomes (GLTS) to deliver tofacitinib citrate directly to hair follicles for treating alopecia areata (AA). Involving 7 patients with stubborn AA lesions, the GLTS gel demonstrated effective localization in hair follicles and resulted in significant hair regrowth, with up to 80% improvement after 12 weeks. The treatment was well-tolerated and did not cause systemic side effects, indicating that GLTS gel could be a promising first-line treatment for persistent AA patches.
