Fractional CO₂ Laser Combined With Topical Compound Betamethasone for Vitiligo-Associated Leukotrichia: A Retrospective Study of 13 Patients With Limited Effectiveness
February 2026
TLDR The treatment showed limited success in repigmenting hair for vitiligo-associated leukotrichia.
In a study involving 13 patients with vitiligo-associated leukotrichia, the combination of fractional CO₂ laser and topical betamethasone showed limited effectiveness in promoting hair repigmentation. Only 1 patient achieved significant repigmentation, while 2 others showed mild improvement. No significant changes in hair counts or densities were observed. The treatment was well tolerated, with transient erythema, pain, and mild desquamation as the main side effects, all resolving within 2 weeks. The limited success may be due to depleted follicular melanocyte reserves or suboptimal treatment parameters, indicating a need for further research.
