TLDR Dermoscopy now helps diagnose various skin, hair, and nail issues, improving patient care and treatment understanding.
Dermoscopy, initially used for early detection of dysplastic changes in nevi, expanded its scope to diagnose a wide range of nonmelanocytic skin, hair, and nail disorders. It transformed dermatological diagnosis by integrating clinico-dermoscopic-pathological correlation, aiding in patient consent for biopsies and guiding biopsy site selection. Dermoscopy provided insights into lesion stability or activity and facilitated early assessment of therapeutic responses, benefiting physicians, patients, and researchers. Its aesthetic applications were being explored, enhancing practitioner-patient interactions and improving patient understanding and compliance with treatment protocols.
