TLDR CO2 fractional laser therapy may help regrow hair without scarring by affecting certain inflammatory and growth-related molecules.
In 2019, a study involving 60 C57BL/6 mice investigated the effects of CO2 fractional laser on hair growth and the potential underlying mechanisms. The study found that the laser treatment induced hair re-growth and scar formation in a dose-dependent manner, with the most effective dosage being 18 mJ/spot and 361 spots/cm2, which promoted hair re-growth without causing scarring. The expression of several inflammatory cytokines and Wnt signal pathway molecules, including Wnt10b and β-catenin, increased after laser treatment, suggesting their role in hair re-growth. The study concluded that ablative CO2 fractional laser therapy could potentially serve as a supplementary or alternative treatment for hair loss.
