TLDR Candlenut oil nanoemulsion increases hair growth in male rats and remains stable for 14 days at room temperature.
The research from 2019 aimed to study the formulation of candlenut oil O/W nanoemulsion and its effect on hair growth in Sprague Dawley male rats. The optimal O/W nanoemulsion formula was obtained using a "trial and error" method and spontaneous emulsification, resulting in a formula with 4% candlenut oil and a ratio of Tween 80 : PEG 400 = 2 : 1. The nanoemulsion was liquid, clear, yellowish, homogeneous, had a specific smell, and was stable for 14 days at room temperature with 85.62% transmittance. It was predicted to have a particle size smaller than 100 nm, viscosity around 1.00 cP, pH below 6.960, and was stable in cycling tests or centrifugation tests. The nanoemulsion of candlenut oil was also predicted to increase the hair-growth activity of candlenut oil in rats.
