TLDR The combined herbal extract formulation promotes hair growth safely without skin irritation.
The study investigated the hair growth-promoting effects of ethosomal formulations containing combined herbal extracts from Phyllanthus niruri, Zingiber officianale, and Croton tiglium Linné. The formulations were evaluated for their phytochemical constituents, safety, and efficacy. High-performance thin layer chromatography confirmed the presence of flavonoids and phenols in the extracts. The petroleum ether extract of C. tiglium showed higher hair follicular density and number of hair follicles compared to the ethanol extract. However, the ethanol extract formulation demonstrated greater safety with no skin irritation observed. Histopathology indicated normal epidermis and hair follicles after 21 days of application. The combined ethanol extract ethosome formulation was found to be less cytotoxic than the petroleum ether formulations, suggesting a better safety profile for topical application.
