TLDR Finasteride 2.5 mg/day can effectively treat female hair loss.
A study from 5 years ago found that oral administration of finasteride at a dose of 2.5 mg/day was effective in treating female pattern hair loss in women. The treatment was considered safe and effective, with significant improvement in hair growth and no reported adverse effects. The study included a large number of patients and found that age of onset of FPHL was positively correlated with improvement in hair growth. However, another study found no significant difference in improvement between the group that received finasteride and the group that received a placebo, although there was a partial improvement in hair thickness. Overall, finasteride at a dose of 2.5 mg/day may be an effective treatment option for female pattern hair loss.
