TLDR Using your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can effectively treat hair loss, increasing hair density and width with no side effects.
The 2020 study by Mahmoud Makki, Abdel-Khalek Hassan Younes & Islam Salah involved 50 patients with androgenic alopecia, aged 18-40 years, who were treated with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. The treatment resulted in a significant increase in hair density, hair width, and terminal/Vellus ratio, with high patient satisfaction and no adverse effects reported. The study concluded that PRP is an effective treatment for androgenic alopecia. However, the authors emphasized the need for more clinical trials and long-term follow-up to confirm these results. No conflicts of interest or financial support were reported.
