TLDR DDAIP-HCl significantly increases minoxidil absorption into the skin.
The study from 2012 examined the impact of dodecyl-2-N, N-dimethylaminopropionate hydrochloride (DDAIP-HCl) on the skin absorption of minoxidil, a common treatment for male pattern hair loss. It compared two formulations containing 0.05% and 0.5% DDAIP-HCl with a standard 5% minoxidil solution. The results indicated that 0.05% DDAIP-HCl increased minoxidil permeation by 5.7 times, while 0.5% DDAIP-HCl increased it by 116 times compared to the standard solution. Additionally, minoxidil concentration in the skin was 4.2 times higher with 0.05% DDAIP-HCl and 7 times higher with 0.5% DDAIP-HCl. This suggests that DDAIP-HCl significantly improves minoxidil delivery into the skin, which may enhance its effectiveness for treating hair loss. The study utilized human cadaver skin and measured minoxidil concentrations using LC-MS/MS.

Sodium dodecyl sulfate, oleic acid, and palmitoleic acid may promote hair growth, but their safety and effectiveness for humans are uncertain. Users consider trying these treatments cautiously, exploring alternatives like ostrich oil and microneedling.
