    Topical minoxidil was found to be a safe and effective treatment for male pattern baldness in a study of 81 patients. 53% of patients experienced significant hair growth after one year of treatment, with an average reduction in balding crown diameter of 3.48 cm. Patients reported moderate to excellent effectiveness and high self-esteem. The 3% solution showed greater improvement than the 2% solution. The study concluded that topical minoxidil is an effective means of modifying baldness.
