TLDR Coffee and its by-products are promising for skin health benefits in cosmetics and help reduce environmental impact.
The review article discusses the potential of coffee and its by-products as active ingredients in cosmetics. The study analyzed 52 patents, with the majority using the coffee bean to obtain extracts. These formulations are primarily intended for use on nonspecific skin areas, eye areas, scalp hair, and lip skin, with claims of benefits such as anti-aging, moisturizing, sun protection, hair growth, and anti-dandruff. The conclusion of the study is that coffee and its residues, rich in phenolic compounds, caffeine, fatty acids, and other substances, have significant biological properties beneficial for the skin. Therefore, they are promising ingredients to be incorporated into topical formulations, ensuring skin health benefits and reducing environmental impact.
