TLDR Certain circular RNAs may regulate wool follicle growth in sheep.
The study investigated the role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in the wool follicle development of Aohan fine wool sheep by using RNA-seq to identify circRNAs in sheep shoulder skin at three developmental stages. A total of 8,753 circRNAs were identified, with 1,351 showing differential expression. The study found that these circRNAs were mainly involved in cellular component organization, regulation of primary metabolic processes, tight junctions, and specific signaling pathways. Interactions between 17 circRNAs and 8 miRNAs were predicted, suggesting that certain circRNAs may play a crucial role in regulating wool follicle growth. The findings provided a foundation for future research on circRNAs in wool follicle development.
